Folk dance classes by Pierre Chesneau at Ten Weyngaert
Term from Tuesday 16th of September till Tuesday 16th of December 2025
You can register up to the 4th class of each trimester.
Your first class is a trial session. Do not hesitate to come and try!
Program Level 5 – 8 Labo
For this advanced course (levels 5 to 8), known as ‘Labo’, Pierre brings all the depth and reflection of his 30 years in the folk world to pass on folk and traditional dances with a cross-disciplinary teaching approach built around a few fundamental ‘pillars’. Exploring dances that are familiar but still full of surprises, or discovering technical repertoire that is rarer. The aim of Pierre's proposal is to offer participants a toolbox of physical, musical and cultural knowledge that will enable them to continue on their folk-dancing paths with curiosity and richness for many years to come.
This is not a repertoire or figures course. It's an exploration for adventurous dancers at intermediate, advanced and very advanced levels.
Pre-requisites: For this advanced class, it would be important to have a good grounding in the steps of most of the common folk ball dances. But even more important would be a willingness to question these basics, and a mindset built more around exploring the unknown than consolidating what has been learned. It's the “Lab” aspect that stands out here ;-)
2 little bonuses:
- 1 Tuesday out of 2, you can continue with the practica at the Pianofabriek!
- You can't decide between your current course and Pierre's? Take both thanks to the super discount!
Pierre Chesneau and the creation of audiovisual teaching tools
Former resident teacher at the school, Pierre Chesneau is joining us for a year with an ambitious project: to transform his 15 years of teaching Folk and Tango into a completely rethought teaching method.
Having grown up in the world of European folk music, from major festivals like Gennetines to more intimate events, Pierre has contributed to the evolution of the scene over 25 years as a teacher. Now “retired” from teaching, he is back with a holistic approach built around four fundamental pillars: movement dynamics, creative musicality, the social context of dances, and dance as a tool for personal development.
This systemic method promises to open up new horizons of bodily exploration and connection (to oneself, to others, to the community). There are two options: a beginners' course or an advanced “Labo” course to try out this innovative teaching method.
In addition to the courses, Pierre will be developing audiovisual teaching tools for a wide audience. Naturally, participants will be the first to benefit!
